RoadBounce has set a new global milestone and accelerated technological innovation and infrastructure development by successfully mapping 22,000 km of state highways across Maharashtra in two months. This groundbreaking breakthrough, not only highlights the potential of RoadBounce’s cutting-edge technology, but also sets a new standard for road condition evaluation.
The Challenge
The fundamental issue of this project was its massive size and short deadline. Surveying 22,000 kilometers of state roadways across varied terrains and weather conditions in just 60 days necessitated meticulous planning, robust technology, and a flexible execution strategy. RoadBounce rose to the occasion by leveraging its new breakthrough technology, which only requires a smartphone and a car to collect precise data about road surface conditions effectively.
Execution with Precision
To address this issue, RoadBounce strategically placed more than 30 vehicles, each equipped with a rental smartphone with the RoadBounce app. The application, which was built to function flawlessly offline in remote and hilly places where internet connectivity is problematic, ensured that no data was lost. Once connectivity was restored, each vehicle became a mobile data collection hub, seamlessly capturing information and synchronizing it to RoadBounce’s cloud-based storage.
Innovative Technology
The RoadBounce application, which is specifically designed to record and analyze road surface condition with great precision using minimum smartphone technology, served as the project’s backbone. This simple and efficient method implied shorter setup time and cost-effective implementations.

Impact and Benefits
The effects of this project were similar to those of the previous Latur district effort, but on a far greater scale. Maharashtra now has access to a comprehensive and usable dataset, as all 22,000 kilometers of roadways have been digitally mapped and analyzed. Using this data, the Public Works Department can efficiently prioritize road maintenance, focusing on critical areas.
